Cassette tapes are collectibles in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. They can contain either information or music. In this guide, we’re going to show you where to find cassette tapes in MGS V: The Phantom Pain.

Info Tapes

Info tapes contain relevant intel, like information about the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Scorched Earth Operation or Ocelot’s briefings. You’ll mostly get them as rewards for doing missions, but some can be found scattered across the map.

Music Tapes

Music tapes are filled with the game’s original soundtrack, as well as some iconic tracks from the eighties. You’ll mostly find them inside tape decks in enemy camps, playing to entertain the troops. When you’re near enough, you’ll be able to hear the music and follow it to get the tape. Several tapes have already been seen out in the wild:

Maneater – Hall & Oates
The Maneater tape can be found in Lamar Khaate Palace, in the south-wester region of Afghanistan. It is on a table, on the second floor, in the rightmost part of the building.

True – Spandau Ballet
True is located in Da Shago Kallai, a small village in the southern part of Afghanistan. There’s a mission that will require you to eliminate a certain Specnaz commander – the tape is in his room, in the central building of the village, right next to the gate with the watchtower.

Posters are collectible items in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. There are six of them to be found throughout the game. In this guide, we’re going to show you all poster locations in MGSV.

Soviet Soldier Poster

The soldier posters are quite common. One of them can be found in the Eastern Communications Post, in the central building. You’ll see it on the side of a metal container.

Glamor Model Horizontal Poster

You can find this one in the Eastern Communications Post, in the building in the middle of the camp. It’s on the wall in the room with the comms equipment you have to destroy during the C2W mission.

There’s another one in Angola, at Nova Braga Airport. Go to the biggest building in the north-western part of the airport. You’ll find the poster in one of the rooms on ground floor.

Idol Girl Vertical Poster

This one will show up at Mother Base at some point. It will be on the Command Platform, next to the portable shower.

Glamor Model Vertical Poster

It is located in a small garage in the north-eastern part of Nova Braga Airport, Angola. You’ll find it on the wall between two shelves.

PF Soldier Poster

These are as common as the regular soldier ones are, only in Angola. We’ve found a couple at Nova Braga Airport. The first one is in the large terminal building in the north-western part of the airport.

The second one can be found in one of the garages in the north-western area, behind the large building.

Idol Girl Horizontal Poster

As with the other Idol Girl poster, this one will show up at Mother Base after some time. We found it on the Command Platform after Mission 18.

Medicinal Plants are herbs used for researching new items and weapons in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. There are eight kinds of plants – some can be found only in Afghanistan, others only in Angola. In this guide, we’re going to show you where to find medicinal plants in MGSV.

Wormwood

A plant with tiny yellow blossoms that has anesthetic effects. Grows in sunny areas with grass or wastelands. Can be found both in Afghanistan and Angola. Required for using the Phantom Cigar.

Black Carrot

A common species of wild carrot. The white flowers grow in clusters. Grows in both areas of the game, and is necessary for using the bait bottle.

Golden Crescent

You’ll recognize it by the large, blue flowers. It can be found only in Afghanistan. Thanks to its sedative properties, it’s used for strengthening tranquilizer rounds.

Tarragon

It has long, thin leaves and yellow flowers. Grows only in Afghanistan, mainly alongside grass. It has a use in making performance enhancing drugs (pentazemin, acceleramin).

African Peach

Has big, red, round flowers. It can only be found in Angola, and because of its effect on the nervous system, it is used to develop sleeping gas.

Digitalis Purpurea

You’ll recognize it by the light purple, bell-shaped flowers. It has a strong effect on the central nervous system. It grows only in Angola, and finds its use in strengthening tranquilizer rounds and using sleeping gas mines.

Digitalis Lutea

Looks almost identical to the other Digitalis, except the flowers here are yellow. You’ll find it in Angola, and use it to make better tranquilizer darts, develop and use sleeping gas grenades.

Haoma

Haoma looks like a shrub with miniature red and yellow flowers. It grows on sand, in Afghanistan. It has an effect on concentration, and is used to make noctocyanin and acceleramin.

Animal Extraction Locations in MGSV

Wild animals are a common sight in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. If you knock them out, you can use the Fulton device to send them to Mother Base, where they’ll be kept on a Zoo platform. If you collect one of each species, you’ll unlock the Conservation achievement/trophy. In this guide, we’re going to show you the animal extraction locations for rare species.

Grey Wolf

Grey wolves are common throughout Afghanistan. One pack can be found near the road, halfway between Lamar Khaate Palace and Da Shago Kallai.

Wild Donkey

Wild donkeys are commont in both Afghanistan and Angola. There is one donkey wandering the road from Qarya Sakhra Ee to Da Smasei Lamar.

Himalayan Brown Bear

This bear can be caught during a Side Op mission called 48 – Capture The Legendary Brown Bear. He can be found in the mountain pass that connects the roads from Wakh Sind Barracks to Qarya Sakhra Ee in the south, and from Aabe Shifap Ruins to Serak Power Plant in the north. It took us 7 shots with the WU Pistol to put him to sleep. Note: He is not, in fact, brown.

Grant’s Zebra

The zebra is a common animal in Angola. One of the places to find it is in the fields just east of Nova Braga Airport.

Nubian Goat

The nubian goat isn’t hard to find, if you’re in Angola. We found our first one on the road between Mfinda Oilfields and Bwala ga Masa, near outpost #6.

Okapi

The okapi is a rare species – so rare, in fact, it’s referred to as a living fossil. They live in Angola, and we found one roaming the northern plains, between Mfinda Oilfield and Kiziba Camp. It was peaceful and calm, and didn’t try to escape when we approached it.

Ibis

Ibis bird can be found in Luftwa Valley, in the Angola-Zaire region. Bring D-Dog with you and follow the trail into the forest. You’ll find the bird around the waterfall.

Jackal

During the Side op 50 mission called Capture the Legendary Jackal, you can catch this animal. Just south of Nova Braga Airport in Africa, you’ll find a pack of jackals.

Memento Photos are collectible objects in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. They are carried by members of the old Mother Base, survivors scattered around the world after the attack 9 years ago. You can obtain them by finding and recruiting those old comrades. In this guide, we’re going to show you how to obtain all 11 memento photos in MGSV. Collecting all the photos unlocks Reminiscence achievement / trophy.

Miller and Paz – Photo #1

This photo is obtained after finishing the Side Op called 51 – Extract The Wandering Mother Base Soldiers 1. You should go to the area by the road, north of Mountain Relay Base. He will try to run away if he sees you, so you should lay low, put him to sleep and use the Fulton device on him.

Proffesor Galvez – Photo #2

You’ll get the second photo after you finish the Side Op called 52 – Extract The Wandering Mother Base Soldiers 2. Your old comrade is just south of Shago Village (Da Shago Kallai). Sneak up to him, and disable him using tranquilizer darts. After he’s down, use the Fulton device to send him to Mother Base.

Swimsuit Paz – Photo #3

This photo is obtained after you finish the Side Op 53 – Extract The Wandering Mother Base Soldiers 3. This comrade is roaming the lush forests of Angola. He can be found near Bwala ya Masa, in the north-western part of the map. Make sure he doesn’t notice you, and put him to sleep or knock him out. When you Fulton him, the mission will be over.

Nuke – Photo #4

The fourth photo is a reward for finishing the side op 54 – Extract The Wandering Mother Base Soldiers 4. He can be found in Angola, west of Nova Braga Airport, in a secluded area surrounded by cliffs. Sneak up to him and knock him out. Once he’s asleep, send him to your HQ using the Fulton balloon.

Fishing – Photo #5

Photo #5 is obtained after finishing side op 55- Extract The Wandering Mother Base Soldiers 5. You’ll find him in the area around Kungenga Mine, in the Angola-Zaire region. He’ll try to run away from you – knock him down before he notices you, and extract him with a Fulton balloon.

Gallo Pinto- Photo #6

You’ll get the sixth photo after completing Side Op 56 – Extract The Wandering Mother Base Soldiers 6. His location is in the southeast part of Africa, north-east of Munoko ya Nioka Station, towards Ngumba Industrial Zone. When you approach him, he will disappear, thus you’ll need night vision goggles to find him again.

Birthday Party- Photo #7

After completing Side Op 57 – Extract The Wandering Mother Base Soldiers 7, you’ll be rewarded with Photo #7 – Birthday Party. The soldier can be found in the west part of Afghanistan. Just look under the bridge to the south of Yakho Oboo Outpost.

Costa Rica- Photo #8

Completing Side Op 58 – Extract The Wandering Mother Base Soldiers 8, rewards you with Photo #8 – Costa Rica. You’ll find the soldier in the southern part of Lufwa Valley. If he detects you he’ll use grenades.

Chico- Photo #9

Photo no. 9 is obtainable after completing Side Op 59 – Extract The Wandering Mother Base Soldiers 9. This Side Op becomes available after completing mission 38. In the eastern part of Afghanistan you’ll find the soldier on top of a hill, just east of Qarya Sakhra Ee. The soldier is equipped with stun grenades.

Futbol- Photo #10

The last photo named Futbol is your reward for finishing Side Op 60 – Extract The Wandering Mother Base Soldiers 10. He can be found in northwest region of Afghanistan in the Aabe Shifap Ruins. He’s wearing a huge shield on his back and uses stun grenades.

Morpho Butterfly- Photo #11

When you collect 10 photos visit Paz on the Medical Platform, and give her all photos. She will get some rest every time you give her a new photo. Use the Phantom Cigar to speed up the time and wake her up. After giving her all 10 photos, the last one Morpho Butterfly will spawn outside, on the wall of her room. Once you collect the 11th photo you’ll unlock the Reminiscence achievement/trophy.
